There will be no handshake says Gachagua

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has stated that there will be no handshake between opposition leader Raila Odinga and President William Ruto.

According to Gachagua, the opposition’s planned protests are part of a premeditated plot by the opposition to join the government.

While speaking during an interdenominational thanksgiving service held at Embu University on Sunday, Gachagua compared Odinga’s efforts following the fatal 2007 elections and the 2017 votes, both of which, according to Gachagua, resulted in Odinga becoming involved in government.

“Our president we are asking you while here in Mt Kenya, we don’t want him in our government. Let him protest in the morning, afternoon, and evening, we don’t want any handshake,” he said.

He added, “The only handshake Ruto is interested in is with hustlers and church leaders.”

Gachagua did not miss his words as he dismissed the ‘handshake’ as the worst thing to happen to Kenya.

He said, “The handshake was a bad experiment. It is the worst thing that has happened in the history of Kenya for 60 years. All the economic mess we are having today is as a result of that handshake.”

The second in command stated that the best aid Odinga can provide is to remain in opposition.

The newest squabble between the opposition and the government is over the fate of four IEBC commissioners who contested the results of the August 9 presidential election, which declared Ruto the winner.

Raila Odinga, Kenya’s opposition leader, has called his followers to a gathering on December 7 at Kamukunji Grounds to discuss how to hold the Kenya Kwanza government accountable.

“We will return to the same venue on December 12th, to continue with these consultations on the state of our nation,” he added.

Raila said that the Ruto government had seized control of the judiciary and that the criminal system had failed.

The former prime minister stated that it was the reason for the recent wave of high-profile case withdrawals.

He also announced nationwide protests against the plan to fire four IEBC members who contested the 2022 presidential election results.

Speaking in Kisumu, the ODM leader stated that the opposition would engage the public through political rallies to ensure that the four commissioners who contested the presidential election results in 2022 were not victimized.

“An Independent electoral commission is the referee. It cannot be appointed by a player. So, we will not allow the ‘Kenya Kwisha’ regime to impose the commission on the people of Kenya. That is not acceptable,” Odinga said on Sunday, November 27.

He said, Azimio will hold their first rally at Kamukunji grounds in Nairobi before proceeding to Mombasa, then Nakuru and Kakamega counties.

President William Ruto has directed Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki to provide security to the opposition during their protests.
