Heights of impunity
The boda boda industry has been a game changing means of transport since the early 2000s. Favourable government taxation policies on motorcycle imports put in place by the late former president Mwai Kibaki, led to a boom of the boda boda industry.
The move created employment and increased dependency amongst businesses and people who relied on this mode of transport for their day to day activities. But riders are now best known for careless riding and reckless manoeuvres leading to fatal road accidents and public uproar.
