Kilifi governor orders grabbed beach access roads re-opened following public outcry
Kilifi Governor Gideon Mung’aro has ordered all grabbed beach access roads to be opened to the public.
This is after an outcry by residents that some investors had grabbed beach access roads hence making it difficult for members of the public to access the beaches.
Mung’aro further ordered for the revocation of all title deeds issued on riparian land along the Kilifi beach line saying that it was against the law.
“If there is someone who has been given a title deed on riparian land, they should check on the Ministry of Lands and check if that title was issued legally. For those who have blocked beach access roads, we ask them to open up those roads or we bring our graders and pull down those walls,” he said.
Recently, a section of residents of Malindi town stormed a grabbed beach access road near the defunct Pata Pata international club making it difficult for another investor to develop their beach plot.
They claimed that the blocking of the beach road was hindering an investment in the area that would provide jobs for the unemployed.
“There is a huge project coming up here that will cost KES. 2 billion and create jobs for locals but one investor has decided to block the beach access road. We urge the government to help protect investors by repossessing all grabbed beach access roads,” said Abdala Mbwana, a resident in the area.
