Kilifi county to employ 2,000 youth to clean major towns and beaches, Governor Mung’aro says
Kilifi governor Gideon Mung’aro has announced that his administration plans will employ 2,000 youth to aid in cleaning the environment in major towns and along the beaches.
Speaking during a celebration to mark one year anniversary since his election into office, Mung’aro said the new recruits will receive a monthly stipend of Sh7,000 and will be working on part time basis.
“Form next month we will start employing women and youth from every ward to clean up their areas so that we have a clean Kilifi. There will be about 2,000 youth and women spread across the county and every ward will have its share of employment,” he said.
He also said that the changes that were currently being made in his administration was to ensure that corrupt individuals are weeded out to save public funds from embezzlement.
“I understand there are some families making noises because their kin are being interrogated, I want to assure them that the audit and fight of corruption we are making will straighten things in this county and those found accused will be sent home and the clean ones will retain their jobs,” he said.
Tezo ward MCA Thomas Chengo who is also the minority leader at the Kilifi County Assembly said that the County government had allocated funds to carry out land surveys in the area as the process of getting title deeds begins.
“In our budget we have set aside funds to develop Mtondia town and other funds to carry out surveys for Mtondia so that we have a well-planned town,” he said.
Kilifi North MP Owen Baya said that he will work with all leaders despite their political affiliation and that he was solidly behind Mung’aro’s development agenda for Kilifi people.
“Leaders should sit down with his people and Mung’aro has demonstrated that he is a man of the people and I want to assure him of my full support. He is in ODM and I am in UDA but we are working together,” he said.
At the same time, Kilifi First Lady Suzanna Mung’aro led Malindi stakeholders to mark the 59th monthly clean-up exercise organized by the Progress Welfare Association of Malindi and hailed them for taking the lead in combating the effects of climate change through beach cleaning and tree planting initiatives.
