We won’t depend on external agencies to investigate extra-judicial killings: Wetangula
National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula has commended President William Ruto for disbanding the Directorate of Criminal Investigations’ SSU unit saying many extrajudicial killings took place during its reign.
Speaking at the homecoming ceremony of Garsen MP Ali Guyo Wario at Tulu village in Tana Delta Sub County, Tana River County, Wetangula said that many families were reeling in pain over their lost loved ones who died or disappeared mysteriously.
“Kenya is a country that abides by the law. If you are found guilty of defying the law, you will be dealt with as an individual,” he said.
He went on to say that any matter in regards to extra-judicial killings will be dealt with internally.
“We can deal with our situation 60 years after independence; we’re not going to be dependent on any external agencies to solve our internal problems,” he said.
On the hunger situation in the country, the speaker said the government was keen on ending it by implementing measures aimed at mitigating drought such as water collection and irrigation farming.
“We must eradicate hunger in our country and we will make use of our rivers and dams to promote food production,” he said.
Wario and his Galole counterpart Said Hiribae called on the government to put up measures that will end the era of government distributing food rations to Kenyans saying that it was a shame that Kenyans were still relying on food aid.
Saboti MP Caleb Hamisi challenged the government to solve the hunger situation saying that Kenya was becoming a shame to countries in its league because of hunger and starvation situations.
“The government should work to resolve the food crisis and in the next five years we will make them account for what they have done in that regard,” he said.
Hamisi also clashed with Tana River senator Danson Mungatana on the proposed National Government Constituency Development Fund bill saying that it should be separated from the proposed Senate Oversight Fund arguing that the NGCDF was meant to compliment national government projects while the SOF was to enable senators supervise devolution.
Wetangula also promised to ensure that NGCDF sails through to help poor Kenyans take their children to school.
