Messi, Mbappé nominated for FIFA Best award; Cristiano Ronaldo not on the list
The nominees for the 2022 FIFA Best Awards have been announced, with a host of top football stars from around the world in contention for the coveted prizes.
Among those nominated are Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe, Leah Williamson, Beth Mead, Keira Walsh, Jude Bellingham, Luka Modric, Karim Benzema, Sam Kerr, Jessie Fleming, Alexia Putellas, Sarina Wiegman, Emma Hayes and Pep Guardiola.
The awards recognize the best players, coaches and goalkeepers in the world of football.
In the men’s category, Bellingham, Modric, Benzema, Manchester City’s Erling Haaland, Kevin de Bruyne and Julian Alvarez, and Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah are all nominated for best player.
For the first time ever, Cristiano Ronaldo didn’t make the final 14 players for the annual Best Fifa Men’s Player award.
For the best men’s goalkeeper award, the nominees are Liverpool’s Alisson Becker, Manchester City’s Ederson and Aston Villa and Argentina’s Emiliano Martinez.
In the women’s category, Williamson, Mead, Walsh, Kerr, Fleming, and Putellas are all nominated for best player. The nominees for the best women’s goalkeeper are Manchester United’s Mary Earps, Chelsea’s Ann-Katrin Berger.
For the best coach, the nominees are Sarina Wiegman, Emma Hayes, Pep Guardiola, Beverly Priestman, Carlo Ancelotti, Didier Deschamps and Lionel Scaloni.
Voting closes on 3 February, with the three finalists in each category to be announced later that month.
