Siaya County staff to surrender dossier against DG Oduol to the EACC – Oguna
Siaya county government now says it is ready to surrender a dossier implicating deputy governor, William Oduol to alleged abuse of the office to the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission.
According to the county chief of staff Cyrus Oguna, the executive has identified new evidence of how the deputy governor manipulated and influenced the payment of certain contractors against the public procurement and asset disposal act.
“We have identified new evidence of abuse of office by the deputy governor which will be handed over to the EACC to aid in their investigation,” Oguna said when he addressed the press outside the county headquarters on Monday.
He said that the new evidence that touches on manipulation and influencing payment to certain contractors is solid and will be made public in due course.
Oguna said that EACC had communicated to the county government in regard to pending investigations, among them the alleged misappropriation of Ksh. 600 million that has been incomplete for the last two years and has promised action, including arrests very soon.
“We want to reaffirm that we willfully cooperate with the EACC and other investigation bodies to ensure that any additional evidence identified be shared with all other relevant bodies,” he said adding that Governor James Orengo was committed to fighting graft in his government.
William Oduol had been at loggerheads with his boss, with the deputy governor accusing Governor Orengo of allegedly keeping quiet as a syndicate of corrupt county officials fleeces the county coffers
The deputy governor is scheduled to appear before the Siaya county assembly tomorrow, Tuesday, June, 6 where a special committee formed to look into an impeachment motion tabled by East Asembo MCA; Gordon Onguru will be tabling its report.
Orengo government has since denied corruption allegations, saying that the allegations by the deputy governor were historical, most of which occurred before the governor took over the office.
