Failure to launch, stalled bipartisan talks | AM Live
Youthful panellists added their voices to the current national conversation on bipartisan talks between the government and the opposition.
Ascon Kamili and Omulo Junior held brief for the Kenya Kwanza government and maintained that the bipartisan talks should only focus on the cost of living and reconstitution of IEBC and not the opening of the IEBC election servers.
Mundalo Advise and Nellie Chepkemoi, who spoke for the opposition, called out the President for rewarding loyalists and refusing to ask IEBC to open servers if he believes he truly won the 2022 polls.
City Hall proposes hourly pay for parking to increase county revenue
Nairobi County Chief Officer of Mobility Boniface Nyamu said the drafted policy is part of the efforts by the county government to increase revenue for the next financial year. If adopted, motorists will pay KES 100 in the first hour and KES 50 for the subsequent hours they park in the city centre.
“We have seen that especially in CBD, the demand for parking is high than the supply. We have proposed in the next financial bill to increase the amount of money that one pays for parking. We will be billing hourly meaning that the more you stay in CBD, the more you pay. This will increase the parking revenue and discourage congestion,” Mr Nyamu said.
State plans to plant maize on 500,000 acres of idle public land
Agriculture PS Harsama Kello said they had mapped out land belonging to Kenya Agriculture Livestock Research Organisation, Kenya National Youth Service, Kenya Prisons and Agriculture Development Corporation to be put under crop cover.
Mr Kello said plans are already underway to have Agriculture Finance Corporation (AFC) give loans to these State agencies to enable them grow maize and ease the annual shortages.
This is the first time that the government has revealed it would use parastatals to grow more food on idle land.
Senior UN official has deep mistrust for Ruto, Pentagon leaks show
A trove of highly confidential documents leaked from the US military’s tightly guarded registries have thrust Kenya on the path of a potential diplomatic storm, as they suggest that at least one member of the United Nations’ (UN) top brass has a deep mistrust for President William Ruto.
On the diplomatic level, where every uttered word counts, Ms Mohammed’s alleged comments may spark a nasty storm, as they could also be interpreted to be the UN’s stand. At the moment, no context has been given regarding Ms Mohammed comments; and Foreign and Diaspora Affairs CS Alfred Mutua had also not responded to our queries on Kenya’s diplomatic options going forward.
