The Restive Mountain

The tremors in the mountain are settling down, and the talks of succession that were fast gaining traction are subsiding. Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua seems to have now taken control, leading from the front in supporting President William Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza government. The younger politicians have also taken a back seat, in an apparent consensus to let those in office lead while nurturing the ambitions of those behind them. However, this calm environment was not always the case, in what had become a restive region. When the president called the region to order on January 23, 2024, it appeared like the mountain was in self-destructing mode with politics of division largely based on the counties one came from - and the succession of President Ruto.
