Samburu family loses 200 goats, sheep in Monday morning bandit attack – MP Lesuuda
Samburu West MP Naisula Lesuuda says a family has lost 200 goats and sheep in yet another bandit attack in the region.
Speaking during the NTV AMLive, Lesuuda at least one person was left injured during the attack.
“This morning when I woke up, I received a message that there was an attack and a family lost 200 goats… that is the situation as we speak. The President has been dared, there is just so much impunity,” she said.
The MP said she no longer has the strength to keep selling false hope to her people. She called upon the government and all security apparatus to end the persistent figure-pointing and embark on concerted efforts to end the terror in the northern region of the country.
“The President spoke in Baragoi and said don’t try me. He has been dared again this morning,” he added.
According to Lesuuda the bandits terrorising the northern parts of the country no longer care for the law. “There is so much impunity in the North. There is so much attitude like, ‘Mta do?’.”
In October, the lawmaker was moved to tears while questioning Interior CS Kithure Kindiki on his plans to end the pain and chaos in the region.
“I constantly get the feeling that office holders responsible for matters of security don’t really, and are not willing to, comprehend the pain and loss caused by insecurity in the North. Cattle rustling is seen as a tradition and the people’s backward culture. Kindly let me put this into context, and I pray for God’s strength as I do this,” Lesuuda began.
“This is the daily life of a pastoralist living on the border of a pastoralist living in the border of another pastoralist county. We only act when we lose security officials. When will one life be too much to lose in Northern Kenya? We lost 42 police officers and the only thing we have to show for it is a monument with the names of these fallen heroes,” she asked.
In his response, Kindiki pledged to re-energise community policing and deal firmly with the perpetrators.
“I will request for facilitation to improve existing capabilities for air and land mobility and protection of officers who keep peace. I will stay focused until this problem is over even if it means coming to live in the North Rift, not for a week or month and we will stay there as long as it is necessary. We will speak less because security does not require speaking but we will follow the law but still do the job,” said Kindiki.
Lesuuda has further asserted that Kindiki will visit the region withing the next two weeks in a renewed bid to end the insecurity.
