Ruto to Raila: Stop wasting my time and plan for 2027
President William Ruto has lashed out at opposition leader Raila Odinga, telling him to stop wasting his time with protests and plan for the 2027 election.
Speaking at a Thanksgiving celebration for Education CS Ezekiel Machogu in Nyaribari Masaba, Kisii County, on Friday, Ruto said he was well prepared to face any challenge from Raila, who has lost every presidential election he has participated in.
“Don’t waste my time; the election is over. If you have any concerns, plan for 2027 again, and know that I will be well prepared. I assure you that even finding an agent will be difficult,” Ruto said.
Ruto made his response just hours after the Azimio coalition notified police of their intention of presenting a petition to him at the State House on Monday.
Ruto characterized Raila as a renowned national elder who was playing pranks on the populace. He said Raila had no reason to protest against his administration, which had vowed to transform Kenya and deliver a bottom-up economic agenda.
“You are an elder in the country, we would really like to respect you, but you are messing around, stop the protests, stop the fights. If you have a problem with me, where does the mama mboga, makanga and boda boda people come in?” Ruto asked.
Ruto told Raila to quit being haughty and disrespectful of common people because he had caused violence, mayhem, and anarchy among them.
“Stop the arrogance, stop the contempt for ordinary people, you have brought violence, chaos and anarchy to innocent people. Deal with me, you lost to me, not them,” he added.
Moreover, Ruto defended the police against allegations of brutality brought forth by Raila and his allies saying the police are impartial and have a responsibility to safeguard people and their possessions.
He asserted that everyone who conspires to create havoc must be held accountable, regardless of their position.
“The police are an independent force, I want to ask the police to protect the people and their property. Anyone planning and scheming to cause chaos must be held accountable. It doesn’t matter who you are, you must live by the rule of law,” Ruto said.
