Ruto begins two day tour of Raila’s backyard
President William Ruto is set to embark on a two-day tour of the Nyanza region starting today, Friday, January 13, 2023.
The tour will cover the counties of Kisumu, Homa Bay, and Siaya, and will involve the launch and inspection of housing projects, the commissioning of the newly completed Homabay Municipal Market, and meetings with local leaders and residents.
According to State House spokesperson, Hussein Mohamed, Ruto’s itinerary is in line with the government’s bottom-up economic agenda, which aims to transform the lives of those at the bottom of the economic pyramid.
Mohamed said, “The President will launch several projects that directly impact the lives of the people and are in line with the government’s bottom-up economic agenda that places a premium on economic transformation, especially for those at the bottom of the economic pyramid.”
One of the key projects that Ruto will launch during his tour is the first phase of the 5,000 affordable housing program in Homa Bay County.
The project is expected to cover Homa Bay, Oyugis, Kendu Bay, and Mbita towns, and will ultimately help to alleviate the housing deficit in the county and boost the local economy.
Mohamed also highlighted the progress that the affordable housing agenda has made since Ruto took office, noting that the government targets to build 200,000 units a year.
He said, “Cumulatively the project has an active pipeline of 376 projects set to deliver 599,000 houses across the country.”
Residents of the Nyanza region are optimistic about the tour and are hoping that Ruto will consider the completion of the multi-billion Handshake projects started by his predecessor, former President Uhuru Kenyatta.
