Ruto to choose the next DCI boss from a list of three
The National Police Service Commission has narrowed down the list of candidates seeking to take over as Director of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to three following intensive interviews yesterday.
The names of the three are to be submitted to the President who will appoint one of them to head the investigative unit. NPSC did not reveal the names of the three.
Today marks the end of the 14-day vetting period.
PS interviews begin today
The Public Service Commission will today commence interviews for 585 candidates shortlisted for Principal Secretary positions and conclude on October 22.
The interview schedule states that 59 applicants will be interviewed on the first day. The interviews will be performed by various panels between the hours of 8 am and 3:30 pm, with each session lasting 30 minutes.
The panel will hear from a number of people today, including Mary Chebukati Wanyonyi, the wife of IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati, former Kakamega governor running mate Dr. Beatrice Muganda Inyangala, former Nominated MP David Ole Sankok, and others.
Parliament approves House Business Committee ahead of CS vetting
The National Assembly approved nine members of the crucial House Business Committee responsible for setting business to be transacted by the House daily.
The approval of the nine now paves way for the creation of the Appointment Committee that will vet CS nominees. Parliament has 28 days to conclude the vetting and tabling of the Cabinet Secretaries.
The House approved MPs Samuel Chepkonga (Ainabkoi), Faith Gitau (Nyandarua), Umul Ker Kassim Sheikh (Mandera), Adan Keynan (Eldas), Omboko Milemba (Emuhaya) and Robert Mbui (Kathiani) to sit on the powerful committee.
Others are TJ Kajwang’ (Ruaraka), Sarah Korere (nominated), and Joshua Mbithi (Masinga).
NCBA plans new M-Shwari company
In an effort to offer its clients more individualized and feature-rich digital banking services, NCBA Group intends to turn M-Shwari into a standalone company and grow its financial technology (fintech) division.
According to Group CEO John Gachora, the bank is establishing a distinct fintech business to house its digital loan platforms in Kenya and the other five countries where it conducts business.
The subsidiary, which will operate under the parent group, will be led by a CEO and have a separate board.
Kenya’s economic growth drops by 5 per cent
Kenya’s economic growth slowed for the fourth consecutive quarter as a result of below-average rainfall, strong inflationary pressures, and pre-election anxiety.
According to the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS), gross domestic product (GDP) growth was 5.2 per cent in the second quarter, which was lower than the previous year’s similar period when GDP growth was 11 per cent.
Furthermore, the first quarter of this year’s GDP growth was less than 6.8 per cent, the fourth quarter of 2021’s GDP growth was less than 7.4 per cent, and the first quarter of this year’s GDP growth was less than 9.3 per cent. (third quarter of 2021).
According to the KNBS, extended dry weather hurt the nation’s main economic sector, agriculture, while higher inflation eroded consumer purchasing power and reduced demand for goods and services.
Uganda reports first Ebola death in capital Kampala
Uganda reported the first Ebola death in its capital Kampala on Tuesday raising the death toll to 19.
The current outbreak of the deadly virus has infected 54 people according to the health ministry.
Twenty people have recovered including five medics from the first hospital where a case was treated. They were discharged yesterday.

Chelsea enjoyed a comfortable 2-0 victory over AC Milan after former Blues defender Fikayo Tomori received an early red card.
Tomori was sent off for pulling back Mason Mount in the area, with Jorginho converting the penalty. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang doubled the lead with a confident strike against his former club.
Juventus face a tough task if they are to qualify for the knockout stages of the Champions League after suffering a shock 0-2 loss away to Maccabi Haifa.
Juventus only have three points from their four matches, after they beat Maccabi Haifa 3-1 at the Allianz Stadium last week.
Massimiliano Allegri’s side now has to win at Benfica on October 25 and at home to Paris St-Germain on November 2 to have any chance of making the last 16.
Manchester City reached the last 16 of the Champions League despite missing a penalty and having a goal ruled off in a VAR-dominated goalless draw in Copenhagen.
Pep Guardiola’s team advanced to the knockout stage of the league after Sevilla lost to Borussia Dortmund in Tuesday’s other Group G match.
