Lari constituency in Kiambu is poised to benefit from President Ruto’s ambitious plan to construct 400 markets, with Kagwi, Nyambare, Kimende, and Soko Mjinga markets slated for building and renovation in the region.
Local MP Mburu Kahangara and the Kiambu County business community held a meeting on Thursday to confirm the region’s inclusion in the market development plan.
“President Ruto promised 400 markets, and as we speak, our constituency will receive four markets from the budget plan,” said MP Mburu Kahangara.
The announcement came after President Ruto’s recent speech, where he outlined a four-point plan to lower the cost of living, including the construction of small markets across the country to facilitate trade activities.
“In this budget, we have included markets. Those small markets We will construct about 400 markets in different parts of the country to help our farmers and pastoralists get a place to bring their harvest for sale,” he said.
The vendors in the region have been facing challenges due to harsh weather conditions damaging their commodities. Soko Mjinga vendors along the Nakuru-Nairobi highway have been risking their lives to sell their products to passing motorists.
According to MP Mburu Kahangara, the national government will build the markets and later allocate them to vendors, providing a much-needed sigh of relief for the market vendors in Lari constituency.
