Kindiki says he has no qualms working under DP Gachagua

Kithure Kindiki has said he is open to working under Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua who triumphed over him in the race to deputise Ruto in Kenya Kwanza.

The Interior CS nominee was asked by Kathiani MP Robert Mbui, “Have you recovered from the shock, and are you going to be comfortable working under your competitor?” to which he responded, “There was no shock because there was no entitlement to anything.”

He said he has no problem submitting to the authority of Gachagua despite their tough race to deputise Ruto. He said, “My friend Rigathi Gachagua who is my boss and I have no problem whatsoever with him.”

Kidiki was a front-runner among the six who sort to deputise Ruto. The six were Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru, Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro, Kandara MP Alice Wahome, National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi, Gachagua and Kindiki.

The other four shelved their ambitions leaving Kindiki and Gachagua to square it out for the second-in-command slot.

Ruto named former Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua as his choice for the running mate position after a 17-hour meeting. He stated that Gachagua scored highly in every parameter that was used to reach a suitable candidate to aid him in captaining the Kenya Kwanza ship.

The former Senator however took the selection of Gachagua hard, since all parameters indicated he was in the lead.

Following Gachagua’s selection, Kindiki revealed the details of the selection procedure, claiming that Gachagua was outsmarted by him in every area where there was competition, but Ruto sided with Gachagua.

Kindiki stated that he was the favourite in the polls out of everyone running for the job. He added that the Mount Kenya vote had favoured him in the choice.

“The process of identifying a running mate is a very new phenomenon in our country. So, as a party we used an array of methods. The first one was trying to figure out from opinion polls. We came to find out later that the party used secret opinion polls across the country to find out from our membership,” Kindiki stated.

“In the polls that were carried out by the party, it is true that I emerged the winner. The opinion polls were carried out in 10 areas in the Mt Kenya region and all over the country. I also emerged top of the electoral college vote but there were other considerations. The selection of a running mate is also a personal issue and he had so many issues which he considered and settled on Gachagua.”

Kindiki skipped the gathering to officially announce Gachagua as Ruto’s running partner because he was upset by the course of events and felt betrayed.

Two days later he announced he is taking a break from politics and any appointive office during that period, before making a u-turn and taking up the role of Kenya Kwanza’s chief agent.

Today he explained the move further saying the party urged him to reconsider his decision.
