Khalwale, Keynan to lead Kenya Kwanza team in talks with Opposition
President William Ruto led – Kenya Kwanza has named a team that will lead in bi-partisan talks with the Opposition.
The seven-member team comprises parliamentarians including Senators, Members of the National Assembly and a woman representative.
The list was fronted during the Tuesday morning Parliamentary group meeting chaired by President Ruto.
Here is the full list;
- Bonny Khalwale – Senator, Kakamega
- Hon, George Murugara – MP, Tharaka
- Essy Okenyuri – Nominated Senator
- Mwengi Mutuse – MP, Kibwezi West
- Lydia Haika – Women Rep. Taita Taveta
- Hillary Sigei – Senator, Bomet
- Hon Adan Keynan – MP, Eldas
The team will lead the bi-partisan talks with the seven-member team that was also announced by Azimio la Umoja coalition leader Raila Odinga last week.
The Opposition team comprises of Nairobi Senator and ODM secretary general Edwin Sifuna, Narok Senator Ledama Ole Kina and Kitui Senator Enoch Wambua.
Others are MPs Otiende Amollo (Rarieda), David P’Kosing (Pokot South), Millie Odhiambo (Suba North) and Amina Mnyanzi (Malindi).
The two teams will hold talks on the reconstitution of the Independent Electoral and Boundary Commission selection panel.
National Assembly Majority leader Kimani Ichung’wa on Tuesday said the Kenya Kwanza PG meeting resolved that the government shall resist any attempts by the opposition to force or blackmail into implementing the “failed” policies of the last regime.
He said the projects that will be rejected include “corruption-ridden consumption subsidies, irresponsible borrowing and gross fiscal mismanagement, through state capture”.
“We particularly support the government’s policy of subsidizing production rather than consumption and prudent fiscal management within a framework of managed debt levels,” he said.
