Government in crisis: Ruto administration faces multiple setbacks amid public outcry
President Ruto’s administration in recent days has shown dysfunctionality, exposing a troubling lack of effectiveness in handling public interest issues.
These problems have sparked a revolt within the administration itself, with Kenya Kwanza leaders now demanding accountability from the president, cabinet secretaries and administrators for their failure to address the challenges.
The bloodshed in the troubled north has continued despite efforts to quell the violence. Bandits have escalated their attacks by targeting leaders and administrators, reducing deaths to mere statistics with no tangible solutions in sight.
The recent incident of bandits setting fire to Ngaratuko Primary School highlights the gravity of the situation, with more than 200 people killed in bandit attacks since last year.
The commitment made by Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki to stay in the region and tackle the problem now looks like an unfulfilled promise.
Trade CS Rebecca Miano and her Agriculture and Livestock counterpart Mithika Linturi are on the spot for the fake fertiliser and seed saga, a slap in the face for the Kenya Kwanza government, resulting in significant losses for farmers.
On another front, the Ministry of Health is facing a standoff with doctors that has plunged the health sector into crisis. The ongoing doctors’ strike, now in its third week, has seen unsuccessful attempts by CS Susan Nakhumicha, Head of Public Service Felix Koskei and Labour CS Florence Bore to resolve the issue.
In the education sector, Education CS Ezekiel Machogu is under scrutiny over delayed funding to schools and the poor state of junior secondary schools.
Meanwhile, Roads and Infrastructure Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen is grappling with a rise in road deaths.
These challenges not only further tarnish the image of President William Ruto’s administration, but also represent a major test for the President, coming just weeks after he issued a stern warning to his Cabinet.
