Drama as MP turns up at Shakahola Senate hearing to claim Sh1.5m owed
There was a brief moment of drama in the Senate ad hoc committee today after Tigania East MP Mpuru Aburi rose to speak about a personal matter between him and lawyer Cliff Ombeta.
The lawyer, who represents New Life Prayer Centre Pastor Ezekiel Odero, was present at the committee hearing which is probing the mysterious deaths of followers of the Good News International Church led by Pastor Paul Mackenzie.
Aburi, who was also present at the public hearing, caught the eye of Tana River Senator Danson Mungatana, the committee chairperson, who then asked the MP to speak.
“Let me recognize a member of the National Assembly, ‘Mheshimiwa’ just put your name on record, you’re also our friend” said Mungatana.
Aburi introduced himself as a friend of the committee and immediately went off on a tangent to settle his score with the city lawyer.
“The reason I am here is because I saw Cliff Ombeta on TV discussing this issue, I gave Cliff Sh1.5 million and then he blocked my number, I swear to God”.
Mungatana quickly jumped in to cut Aburi off, saying “I think that is beyond the mandate of this committee.”
But Aburi vowed to follow up with the lawyer after the committee hearing.
“I gave it to him there at Equity Bank and I swear we will leave this place together”.
