Court orders Mandago’s arrest over Finland saga
A Nakuru court has ordered the arrest of Uasin Gishu Senator Jackson Mandago and three county officials in connection with the botched Finland scholarship programme.
The three are Joseph Kipkemoi Maritim, Meshak Rono and Joshua Kipkemoi Lelei.
Mandago has since addressed the situation through his social media pages, saying he is available for summons should the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) come for him.
“There are rumours all over Eldoret that DCI officers have been looking for me all night. As a law-abiding citizen, I will be available when summoned,” he said.
The county’s Finland/Canada airlift programme has cast a spotlight on the leadership of the devolved unit.
Some Sh 200 million is said to have been debited to Uasin Gishu County’s overseas accounts, which cannot be accounted for.
At a meeting between Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii and Senator Jackson Mandago, the former county governor, at the Eldoret Social Hall, parents and students confronted the county leadership over alleged mismanagement of the programme.
Governor Bii distanced himself from the scandal and called on his predecessor, Mandago, to explain the matter.
The issuance of Mandago’s arrest warrant comes at a time when Uasin Gishu is hosting the 2023 Devolution Conference.
