A simple man: Magoha eulogised by son, wife
The requiem mass held on Thursday at the Consolata Shrine in Westlands, was a gathering of family, friends, and well-wishers who eulogised former Education Cabinet Secretary (CS) George Magoha as a man of dedication, love, and a lasting legacy.
Barbara Odudu, Magoha’s widow, shared how her mother had a vision when Magoha requested to marry her.
“Mum prayed and the vision came. She had to allow me to get married to him,” she said.
“My husband thought his life was over when my mum passed on.” Barbara further narrated how Magoha was dedicated to her growth and professional career and was happy until the end.
“Marriage is not always 50-50. At times, it would be 80-20. Magoha was happy to the very end. One thing I liked about him is he allowed me to grow and my professional career was important to him,” she said.
Michael Magoha, the son of the former Education CS, broke down as he spoke of his father’s impact on his life.
“All through my life, if I ever needed my dad, he was always available, it didn’t matter where he was,” he said. “He always kept it simple, he always said do what you are supposed to do when you are supposed to do it.”
Michael also recounted how his father always encouraged him to be the best version of himself, even in the face of comparisons.
“He laughed so hard, I miss his laugh, it was really heavy,” he said. “My dad was [people’s] hope and that will continue.”
Magoha was remembered as a pillar of Starehe and a man who was always dedicated to his work.
Barbara described him as “obsessed with success because he always planned.”
She went on to say, “Magoha’s pillars were God that made him and Starehe that moulded him.”
Michael also spoke of his father’s unwavering support and love, saying, “He always kept it simple, he always said do what you are supposed to do when you are supposed to do it.”
