Teen girl detained for killing father in Mwea
Kirinyaga County police have arrested a 17-year-old girl for reportedly killing her father in Ndindiruku village, Mwea-east Sub-county, Kirinyaga County.
According to Kiarukungu area chief Henry Kariuki, the teen refused to serve her father food since her mother Magdalene Wanja was not present.
The deceased, Justus Mutiso arrived home inebriated at about 10:30 p.m. and began demanding food from the girl, who refused.
A police report says the girl decided to go and pick up her mother, who was at a church 500 meters away from their home.
“I had to abandon the prayers on receiving information that he required to be served supper. I rushed back home and did my duty as a wife but sadly what followed left me equally shocked,” the mother said.
The chief said the father was still perplexed as to why her daughter refused to serve him and wanted to punish her before she stabbed him. The man died while receiving treatment at the Kibimbi Sub-county hospital.
Relatives have voiced varying perspectives on the incident; her grandmother, Veronicah Wanja, stated that this is not the first time the man had ‘attacked’ his daughter.
Nancy Kanini, the deceased’s sister, stated that the girl should have respected her father in order to avoid the confrontations that led to his death.
“The suspect stabbed my brother to death and she must be punished in accordance with the law,” she said.
According to the chief, they were able to recover the kitchen knife she used to murder her father.
The girl is being held at the Wang’uru police station and will be arraigned at Wang’uru Law Courts on Tuesday after the inquiry is done.
