Government to fast-track issuance of title deeds in Narok in bid to end land disputes
The Cabinet Secretary for Lands, Public Works, Housing and Urban Development, Zachariah Njeru, has announced that the government will expedite the issuance of title deeds to residents of Narok County.
This he said, is intended to end the various land-related lawsuits in the region.
The CS stressed the importance of land as a factor in production and how it will give locals access to loans for development.
Njeru also hailed the opening of the Narok Bus Park, which was made possible by World Bank funding through the Kenya Urban Support Program.
The bus park comprises 116 parking bays, 180 stalls, 5 offices, and 3 ablution blocks and is expected to enhance efficiency in the transport sector in the region. The county received Urban Development Grants from the program of KES 169.9 million, which were utilized to build the bus park and update various roads to bitumen requirements.
Charles Hinga, the Principal Secretary for Housing, remarked that the project would create employment possibilities for young people while bringing order to the transportation industry. He added that the State Department of Housing and Urban Development would keep implementing different plans and initiatives in the counties to realize Vision 2030. Similar bus parks have already been built in the counties of Nyeri, Mumias, Kakamega, and Rongo.
Hinga also praised the Narok County Government and the County Commissioner for identifying land for the Affordable Housing Program (AHP). A total of 149 acres of land belonging to the Ministry of Livestock have been identified, and the two ministries will engage to agree on the portion that can be availed for the AHP project.
Hinga claims that once the AHP project gets going, the developer would also upgrade neighborhood services like roads and sewage systems while generating jobs for women and youth in the area.
Additionally, Hinga pledged to start the third phase of the stormwater drainage project in order to reduce flooding, which is still Narok’s major problem.
