28 high school students arrested in a bar raid in Embu
Twenty-eight high school students have been arrested in Runyenjes, Embu County after they were caught drinking in nightclubs during a crackdown led by Embu East Deputy County Commissioner Jane Wariunge.
The students, aged between 14 and 19, were from various classes and some are scheduled to sit for their national exams next week.
Jane Wariunge said it was unfortunate that some bar owners were selling alcohol to minors and promised to revoke their licenses in order to stop such practices from continuing.
“We detained the 14 to 19-year-old students. We had to apprehend the Form 2, Form 3, and Form 4 students because they were in separate bars and needed to be questioned,” she said.
“Discipline among school-age children needs to be reined in. Learners shouldn’t be in bars; they should be at home or in classrooms,” she added.
The administrator urged parents to keep track of their kids during this extended holiday to prevent them from engaging in immoral behavior.
“Parents need to make sure their kids don’t develop bad drinking habits that will ruin their lives,” she said.
Meanwhile, Jane Kinuthia, the Embu East Children Officer, issued a warning that anyone caught selling alcohol to students will face charges.
