CS Karoney defends transfer of documents from Ardhi house, says it’s part of digitisation process
Farida Karoney, the outgoing Lands Cabinet Secretary, has rejected allegations of improper transfer of critical documents at Ardhi House, claiming that the exercise was part of the continuing digitisation of data.
On Saturday, a video circulated online showing ministry officials at Ardhi House moving piles of paperwork to a nearby lorry, prompting many social media users to question what was going on considering the significance of the docket.
Following claims that there was something being concealed before the new CS takes office, the outgoing Lands CS described the online information as “incorrect.”
“There’s a lot of rumours online. I have seen a lot of posts and conversations. But those social media posts are not accurate,” she said.
Karoney stated that a decision had been made to transfer the hardcopy files for safekeeping, paving the door for a digital lands registration.
She noted that all land transactions within Nairobi County were now totally computerised. She stated that digitisation is expected to facilitate title transfers and protect public land from grabbers.
“All those records that were taken for safe custody have digital copies. They are in a platform called Electronic Document Management System from which you can now access all the files for Nairobi County,” she added.
“This is the culmination of a successful five-year journey to digitise the records at the Ministry of Lands,” Karoney said.
President William Ruto stated on Thursday that digitising government services is one of his government’s major priorities.
