Brigedia Kamoiro achukua usukani kwenye operesheni ya kudumisha amani Somalia, ATMIS
Brigedia William Kamoiro ndiye kamanda mkuu wa kikosi cha Kenya kwenye operesheni ya kudumisha amani nchini Somalia ATMIS. Kamoiro anachukuwa wadhifa huo ulioshikiliwa kwa mwaka mmoja na Brigedia Jattani Gula alikuwa kamanda wa kwanza wa vikosi vya kenya chini ya muavuli huo wa atmis ambao ulibuniwa 2022, kutokana na majadiliano ya muungano wa Afrika au na Somalia, kuhusisna taifa hilo la upembe wa afrika kuanza kusimamia usalama wake, ifikapo 2024.
Baada ya kuhudumu kwa mwaka mmoja nchini Somalia, kikosi kilichoongozwa na Brigedia Jattani Gula kinarejea nchini na kukabidhi usukani kikosi kipya kitakacho ongozwa na Brigedia William Kamoiro, na kutarajiwa kuhudumu kwa muda ule ule.
ATMIS {African Union Transition Mission in Somalia} ilibuniwa 2022, na kuirithi AMISOM {African Union Mission in Somalia} ambayo imehudumu nchini humo kwa zaidi ya muongo mmoja.
Kenya ni mojawapo ya mataifa ambayo yana vikosi vyake vya kijeshi na polisi nchini Somalia, hususan katika eneo ambalo linapakana na Somalia, huku makao makuu yake yakiwa jijini Dhobley.
Aidha Kenya inahudumu katika maeneo mengine ya Somalia kama miji ya Mogadishu na Kismayu ambapo inashirikiana na mataifa mengine kama Uhabeshi, Burundi , na Uganda.
Wiki jana, meja jenerali Peter Kimani Muteti kutoka Kenya aliwasili jijini Mogadishu kuanza kutekeleza majukumu yake kama naibu kamanda wa kikosi kizima cha ATMIS. Jenerali Muteti atajukumikia masuala ya support na logistics.
Kamanda huyo kutoka kenya amemrithi Meja Jenerali Gerbi Regassa Kabede, ambaye alihudumu katika muda wa (transition) kati ya mabadiliko ya kikosi cha au kutoka AMISOM na kuingia ATMIS.
Vikosi vya mataifa ya Afrika vimekuwa nchini Somalia tangu 2007, A.U ilipobuni kikosi hicho maalum cha kudumisha usalama nchini humo, kukabiliana na tishio la ugaidi na kutoa mafunzo kwa vikosi vya usalama nchini humo.
Baada ya miaka 15, AMISOM ilikamilisha majukumu yake na kubadili malengo yake na kuwa ATMIS. Sababu kuu ya kubuniwa kwa ATMIS ilikuwa kuhusu mipango ya vikosi vya A.U kujiandaa kuodnoka Somalia, ifikapo 2024.
