Embattled FKF President Nick Mwendwa has resumed office after the Directorate of Public Prosecutions dismissed charges against him in July.
Mwendwa confirmed his return to FKF in a letter to FIFA President Gianni Infantino on September 8, 2022.
“I hereby wish to inform your good office that I have resumed duties as FKF president with immediate effect,” the letter reads.
Due to third-party meddling, the FIFA council suspended Kenya with immediate effect on February 24th. The council cited the government-appointed caretaker committee’s control of the football as a major violation of FIFA’s statutes.
The council further stated that the suspension will be lifted immediately and as soon as the necessary prerequisites were met.
After failing to provide any witnesses, the government withdrew all charges against the former Football Kenya Federation President (FKF) through the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
Mwendwa was removed from office last year on charges of widespread embezzlement at FKF.
According to the government, Mwendwa and his office failed to account for funds supplied to the federation by the government and other sponsors.
Kenya laid the stage for a new round of conflict with FIFA after Sports Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed gazetted an 18-member Transition Committee to manage football in the country in May of this year.
