Chelsea to battle Real Madrid, Man City to meet Bayern in Champions League quarters
Chelsea and Manchester City have been drawn against Real Madrid and Bayern Munich respectively in the quarter-finals of the Champions League, setting up a potential all-English semi-final.
The Blues reached the last eight by beating Borussia Dortmund, while Madrid – led by former Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti – thrashed Liverpool 6-2 on aggregate.
Manchester City, who are still chasing their first Champions League title under Pep Guardiola, will take on his former club Bayern Munich, who won the trophy in 2020.
City demolished RB Leipzig in their last 16 tie, with Erling Haaland scoring five goals in the second leg. Bayern Munich, who are coached by Julian Nagelsmann, eliminated Paris Saint-Germain with ease.
The first legs of the quarter-finals will be played on April 11, while the second legs will be played on April 18. If Chelsea and City win their ties, they will face each other in the semi-final – a rematch of last year’s final which Chelsea won 1-0.
The other side of the draw features three Italian teams and one Portuguese team. Napoli, who are unbeaten in Europe this season and lead Serie A by 18 points, will play AC Milan, who are second in Serie A. Inter Milan, who are third in Serie A, will face Benfica Lisbon, who are second in Primeira Liga. The winners of these ties will meet in the other semi-final.
The final of the Champions League will be held on June 10 at Atatürk Olympic Stadium in Istanbul.
