Wanjigi implores Nyanza region to forge new political course away from opposition
Jimmy Wanjigi, the leader of the Safina party, made a second trip to the Nyanza region, where he urged the residents to support him in the wake of Raila Odinga’s narrow loss to President William Ruto in the general elections in August.
Speaking at a funeral in Ugenya Constituency, Siaya County, Wanjigi remarked that the area had great potential and urged the attendees to join him in changing their strategies to fully realize that potential.
“Are you going to wait for another 10 years out of power? Your region has a good history of having fought for rights and freedoms that we enjoy yet you are still outside power. You deserve to be inside power,” Wanjigi said.
“I want to advise you that there are many ways of skinning a cat; you must be inside government not always looking at ‘the head’,” he added.
As he praised the Ruto administration for dealing with police reforms, Wanjigi added that in the interim, he will give the new administration time to see if it will serve Kenyans as it had promised.
“The police had become a home for mass murderers of fellow Kenyans and we commend the newly installed government for the reforms,” Wanjigi said.
The governor of Siaya, James Orengo, who was also present at the funeral, responded and urged the locals to maintain hope in their efforts to become a nation if they wanted to benefit greatly.
“You cannot abandon your mother’s house because it is leaking. If it is leaking you fix it,” he said.
Orengo also criticized Ruto’s administration for intending to raise taxes and NSSF, claiming that Kenya had borrowed until it can no longer borrow from abroad.
