Ruto hosts ODM ‘rebel’ MPs at State House
President William Ruto on Wednesday hosted seven ODM Members of Parliament who have been marked as party ‘rebels’.
According to a statement from State House, the meeting was a follow-up by the MPs to appreciate Rutos’s administration on several developments in the Nyanza region.
Those in attendance include Gideon Ochanda (Bondo MP), Elisha Odhiambo (Gem MP), Phelix Odiwuor (Langata MP), Mark Nyamita (Uriri MP), Tom Ojienda (Kisumu Senator), Caroli Omondi (Suba MP) and Paul Abuor (Rongo MP).
The MPs lauded Ruto for addressing the problems in the sugar sector as they expressed support for the sugar bill coming up in parliament for discussions on Thursday.
They also appreciated the President for the launch of the first commercial flight to Migori County earlier on Wednesday following earlier engagement on the same.
Despite almost being ousted for the same reason, the MPs reaffirmed their commitment to work with the government in support of the development programs in the region and the country as a whole.
The meeting comes after the Political Parties Dispute Tribunal (PPDT) has temporarily stopped the ODM party from expelling a number of MPs over their association with President Ruto.
Meanwhile, ODM party leader Raila Odinga has insisted that his party will not entertain political infidelity.
According to him, loyalty and fidelity to a party are among the key reasons that make political parties grow.
“Loyalty, fidelity and love for one another are the three main reasons political parties grow… ODM shall not condone political infidelity in the name of some members seeking cheap political favours from those in power,” Raila said.
