Kingi’s party, PAA, says coalition agreement with President Ruto has paid off
Leaders of the Pamoja African Alliance party have commended President William Ruto for implementing agreements the party signed with his coalition prior to the August 9 general election.
Led by Ganze MP Kenneth Tungule Kazungu, they said that within 100 days in office, Ruto had ensured that the PAA party produced the Speaker of the Senate and port operations reverted back to Mombasa.
Senate Speaker Amason Kingi was elected to his position by 48 votes which ensured that the Kenya Kwanza coalition controlled the senate.
The party organized a postmortem meeting in Watamu area, Kilifi North Sub County in Kilifi County where all its candidates in the just concluded general election converged to map up strategies for future political engagements.
In the meeting that lasted for at least seven hours in closed doors, candidates who failed to win seats castigated the party leadership for abandoning them. The party managed to win three national assembly seats in Ganze, Rabai and Kinango and also 18 Member of County Assembly seats in Kilifi, Taita Taveta, Kwale and Kakamega Counties.
“I am confident that in the next few years we will have more elected leaders on the PAA at the national level. In the 100 days of his tenure President Ruto has lived his promise by ensuring that the senate speaker seat goes to PAA through our party leader Amason Kingi and that the port operations have been reverted to Mombasa port and these are the low hanging fruits of the agreement,” he said.
He added that more goodies were in the pipeline since President Ruto was still arranging his administration. The party expects to reap from ambassadorial positions, parastatal board appointments and the Chief Administrative Secretary positions.
The PAA party Secretary General Lucas Maitha said that through the meeting, the party discovered where it went wrong in the just concluded general election and has now mapped up strategies to ensure its growth.
“We met with all our candidates who vied on the party ticket in the last general election and we have discussed what went wrong in the electioneering period and we have noted the mistakes which we are ready to rectify as we move on,” he said.
He added that the party supports and will continue to support all its candidates who lost and challenged the results in court.
“We are a new party with no members and from scratch we managed to deliver three MPs and 18 Members of County Assembly. Some candidates only heard of PAA and vied on it including an MCA in Kakamega and this is excellent,” he added.
Mr Maitha said that the party will commence rigorous popularization campaigns to sell the party throughout the country.
“If just months to elections, we managed to deliver, then in the next five years we are going to shock the region with more elected leaders both at the county and national levels,” he said.
