Upcoming Kenyan artist nominated for 2 Afrimma Awards.
Voting closes in 3 days for the All Africa Music Awards (Afrima) which is the international Awards and home of the African voices.
The continental awards announced the nominees of various categories in September 24th 2022 and in the list is a young Kenyan artist, Christine Muthaka aka Muthaka. Muthaka released her first song (Why dont you love me) on the 29th of January 2021 straight out of Covid, a year on she is battling for the Best female artist in Eastern Africa alongside big female east African artists. Speaking to Anto neosoul on the Nation FM Drive, the Contemporary indie soul singer, songwriter and performer was shocked on this nomination.
Muthaka has been nominated alongside Tanzanian female sensation Nandy, Nikita Kering who is currently holding the best east African female artist of the year 2021 title, Uganda’s Spice diana, Kenyan influencer, media personality and singer Tanasha Donna, Tanzania’s Zuchu, Rosa Ree, Frida Amani and Ethiopia’s Betty G.
Muthaka has also bagged a second nomination for the songwriter of the year, and she has been nominated alongside Bridget blue from Kenya, South Africa’s Daniel Baron, Iba one from Mali, Mordecai from H_art the band among many artists from the continent. Muthaka started writing music for herself in 2018.
The songstress grew up listening to country music and was drawn to the story telling skills of Kenny Rogers, Dolly Patron and John Denver.
