Todays Football Personality – RIVALDO
Rivaldo [Rivaldo Vitor Borba Ferreira] is considered by as one of the greatest player of his generation. He was one of the most skillful and creative players of his time. He played predominantly as an attacking midfielder but could be also play as a second striker or winger. He was renowned for his feints, bending freekicks, bicycle kicks and ability to shoot from long distances and score. He was left footed but could score with both. He won the Ballon dO’r in 1999 and named Fifa World Player of the Year.
He started his career with Brazillian club Santa Cruz in 1991 then went on to Mogi Mirim and later on loan spells to Corinthians and Palmeiras. He moved on to Spanish side Deportivo in 1996 staying there for only one season. Due to his performances, he got the attention of Spanish giants Barcelona which he joined the following season. At Barcelona, he formed a great partnership with Dutch international Patrick Kuleivert. He won two consecutive La Liga titles in 1998 and 1999 and a Copa del Rey in 1998. Most notably, he scored a hattrick [which is considered as one of the greatest] against Valencia enabling Barcelona to qualify for the Champions League in June 2001.He joined A.C Milan in 2002 where he stayed for one season winning the Copa Italia and the Champions League. He left Milan in the late 2004 and went to play for Cruizeiro, Olympiacos, AEK Athens, Sao Paulo, Kubuscorp and Sao Ceatano. He announced his retirement in the year 2014 but made several appearances for Mogi Mirim before retiring in August 2015.
He made 74 appearances for his national team [Brazil] between 199 to 2003 and scored 34 goals. He helped Brazil reach the Fifa World Cup final in and won the Copa America where he was named the player of the tournament 1998. He won the world cup in 2002 where he starred in the attacking trio of Ronaldo, Ronaldinho. He was named in the Fifa World Cup All Star team and is and inductee in the Brazilian Football Hall of Fame.
