Tanzanian DJ Gibbzy Takes Fans on a Feel-Good Ride with New Single ‘Slow Motion’

From the inspiration behind his latest single “Slow Motion” to his creative process and upcoming collaborations, Tanzanian DJ Gibbzy gives us an inside look into his world of music.

Your latest single, “Slow Motion,” has a romantic vibe. What was the inspiration and sound behind it?

“Slow Motion” is an Afro Dance song that was actually inspired by the fact that we had just come from fasting during the holy month of Ramadan and I just wanted to give my fans something upbeat and a feel good sound. My style is a blend of different sounds. This is simply because before anything, I am a DJ so when I’m out playing in gigs, I see what people jump and vibe to.

So sometimes I make music depending with the vibes. Another thing is that I’m a producer and I produce my own music. So the inspiration I get while creating will determine the kind of sound I will make.

Is there a special someone who inspired it?

No. The song was not inspired by someone special. For the avoidance of any doubt, i want to tell the beautiful ladies of Kenya that I’m very much single.

You produced, mixed, mastered, and performed “Slow Motion” all on your own. How important is creative control to you as an artist?

Creative control to me as an artist is important because most of the time, I have this vision of how I want my songs to sound. Every song has its own inspiration and vision. That’s why I control how my sound is. But not all the time. Sometimes I collaborate with other creatives.

What’s the story behind the music video for “Slow Motion”?

I actually wanted to have beautiful ladies that I can sing and perform to on the video — but my team and I resolved to having good coloured sets so as to match the video’s feel good vibe.

Any funny moments or interesting anecdotes from the shoot?

The funny thing is when shooting the video, the director kept on playing the song from 9am to 10pm. Imagine getting to listen to your own song for 12 hours. It was hilarious but worth it at the end.

You’ve worked with some incredible artists in the past, including Buruklyn Boyz. Is there anyone you’re looking forward to collaborate with next?

Yes, shoutout to Buruklyn Boyz. They are my family now. And we actually might give people another masterpiece soon. That is just an exclusive.

I’m looking forward to working with Khaligraph in future, I love his work ethic and energy. Nyashinski too. I wish to work with them in future, if not as a rapper, as a producer.

Your rise to fame has been incredible. What advice would you give to other young artists hoping to follow in your footsteps?

I have not been in the industry long enough to give concrete advices since I’m also growing. But for anyone starting their career, I want to tell them not to ever stop. They should just push — you never know who is watching you.

As a DJ, what’s your go-to track to get people up and dancing?

This is a hard one. Because I just play and everything I play people enjoy and dance.

What do you do to unwind when you’re not making music?

I’m always in the gym or watching movies. I’m a big fan of movies and this takes up 90% of my free time.

Finally, what can fans expect from you next? Any upcoming projects or collaborations that you’re excited about?

The fans can expect more dope music from me. More features and solo tracks with dope Kenyan artists. And I’m also looking at giving them a Gibbzy Experience, a show where I’m going to headline and bring some of my friends on board. This will be announced soon.

But in the meantime I would like to ask everyone to stream my music, available on every platform. Thank You.
