Development Of BioGas In Kenya
Florent Eveille is the manager of the African Biodigester Component in Kenya, GIZ. He is passionate about making sure that there is a sustainable and growing biodigester market that significantly contributes to achieving national access and climate targets.
What is biogas?
This is the product or degradation of biowaste in the absence of oxygen. you put the feedstock into a tight container. the degradation of this waste produces gas that is biogas and bio-slurry
What are the components of biogas?
Mix the waste with water and put it in an airtight container. the bottom part has the material and on the top, the gas escapes what goes in goes out. you tap the gas, and it goes to the bio cylinders part or expansion chamber where you can use it on your crops from the biogas it goes to the point of fuse you can use just a stove use it as trade away, but you might need to clean it for some impurities mainly the H2s which is mainly very corrosive to the metal parts.
How is the market space in Kenya?
Biogas has been in Kenya since the 50’s what we have been doing is improving the system and making it affordable and available for more people since it is better than most traditional methods. In 2018 the prefabricated system was introduced, and the government estimates the number of installations to be sixty thousand
What is the role of GIZ?
To build a future worth living, in Kenya, we are mainly working with the transport, climate, and energy sector. The GIZ is funded by the Netherlands, Denmark, and the European Union. we are working with farms that can produce large amounts of waste such as schools this makes it easier to create cylinders.
