A 32-year-old woman who allegedly hurled insults at police officers while in custody at Kayole Police Station has been charged with creating a disturbance in a manner likely to cause a breach of peace contrary to section 95 (1) of the Penal Code.
Ms Ann Kerubo is accused of insulting police officers manning cells where she was being detained after she was arrested for being drunk and disorderly on September 10, 2023. She has also been charged with threatening the police officers.
After she was arrested, police officers manning the report office and cells at the station heard Ms Kerubo banging the cell door and when they went to check, she allegedly hurled insults at them while demanding to be released.
Female officers at the station attempted to calm her down but she also insulted them.
The officers called for reinforcement fearing that Ms Kerubo could cause a commotion that would trigger other suspects in custody to escape.
Ms Kerubo is said to have continued banging the door till morning while insulting any police officer she saw near the cells.
However, while appearing before Senior Principal Magistrate Agnes Mwangi of the Makadara Law Courts, Ms Kerubo denied the charges and sought lenient bail and bond terms telling the court that she has children who depend on her including, a form one student.
The accused was released on a cash bail of Sh15,000 and the case will be mentioned on November 28, 2023 before the hearing starts on April 26, 2024.
Three police officers allegedly insulted by the suspect are listed as the witnesses in the case.
