We are coming for you: Kindiki’s tough warning to chiefs aiding banditry
The government has announced that by January next year, all chiefs and assistant chiefs that aid and precipitate banditry in the country will be interdicted from service.
Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki said the process of laying off the national government administration officers (NGAO) will be done in accordance with the Law so as to boost against banditry that has left many Kenyans injured and others dead.
The tough-talking CS made the announcement on Friday at Posta area in Laikipia County where he chaired a high-profile security meeting.
He said that after the interdiction, the officers will be fired and later arraigned in court procedurally.
“By January, those chiefs and assistants will be interdicted accordingly. They will later on be sacked and arraigned in court. Logically speaking, there is no difference between those officers and the bandits,” Prof Kindiki said.
“I want to tell all chiefs and assistants who have the tendency of tolerating bandits to entrench their criminal activities that their days are numbered. You don’t deserve to continue donning on that crown of the Republic of Kenya. We will sack you. I know the Commissioners already know them,” he added.
Prof Kindiki also announced that plans are underway to honour administration officers and police officers who have devotedly made an impact in curbing the vice ion the bandit-prone regions.
He said the programme, which will be rolled out by his ministry, will start being rolled out this month.
“There are some dedicated police officers and administration officers that deserve to be promoted and others be given national honours. Some will also receive cash money as gifts for their commitment towards service. We must ensure that the whole country knows that we have good officers who are serving the people of Kenya diligently, patriotically at the risk of their own lives,” Prof Kindiki said.
The CS further said that the government will soon place bounties on bandits’ financiers and inciters who are believed to be ‘untouchable’.
He said they are at the tail end of identifying the propagators of banditry in various parts of the country.
“I have said clearly that we will put a price on the head of every commander of this banditry enterprise. This includes their financiers and those who take them through oaths. We will not allow a few people to terrorize the people of Kenya,” he said.
He said the move will enable the government to dismantle the infrastructure of banditry by taking down their commanders and destroying those who enable bandits to conduct their activities.
Prof Kindiki promised that his officers will ensure that 500 camels that were stolen by bandits recently in Samburu County will be returned.
“I have information that the majority of livestock that were stolen here have not been returned. Yesterday, I was at Archers Post in Samburu and heard that a herd of 500 camels was stolen. I want to assure residents of Isiolo, while I am here in Laikipia, that those 500 camels will be returned today,” the CS said.
