Kindiki issues warning after goons burn Kawira Mwangaza’s mattresses, slaughter cow
Security agencies in Meru have launched an intensive hunt for the arrest of criminals and will prosecute everyone who organized the chaos and violence witnessed during the Baite Family Fellowship Okolea program on Sunday evening.
Interior Cabinet Secretary, CS Kithure Kindiki stated that investigations will also target the planners, abettors, and financiers of the violence witnessed in the Igembe region.
“Citizens, including political leaders of all ranks and all political parties, must carry out their activities lawfully and peacefully without exception,” said Kindiki.
A week ago, before President Ruto at Laare grounds, Governor Kawira pointed out that there are a few powerful leaders who earn a salary of between Sh500,000 and Sh1 million in the county who have never accepted that she is their governor.
According to Kawira, part of their donations were destroyed, including mattresses being burnt down, and a cow meant to benefit a needy family was slaughtered.
However, in her statement, Kawira emphasized that she would not be deterred from their mission to help those in need, adding that they would continue to reach out to the less fortunate and play their part in improving people’s lives.
During the incidents, several journalists covering the event were harassed, beaten, and had their cameras destroyed by a mob. Police were forced to use tear gas to separate thousands of residents who held demonstrations in Maua town, condemning the initiative.
This comes as National Ordinary Empowerment Party (NOPEU) chairman Julius Mbijiwe urged an audit of the county government of Meru. According to Mbijiwe, if the investigation agencies fail to conduct an audit, they will embark on collecting 100,000 signatures and present the petition as per Senate standing order article 219 to impeach her.
