Utilize digital skills to create employment, Gachagua advises youth
Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has urged the youth in Kenya to take charge and use their digital skills to create employment and build successful careers.
In his speech during the official opening of Nation-Huawei Job Fair 2022, Gachagua emphasized the increasing need for individuals to have a strong understanding of technology in today’s job market.
“By the year 2030, reasearch has shown that 230 million jobs will be created in Sub-Saharan Africa. However, these jobs require these (digital) skills,” Gachagua said.
Gachagua urged the youth to take advantage of the various resources and training opportunities available to learn digital skills. He highlighted the potential for using these skills to start their own businesses or to secure employment in industries that are increasingly relying on technology.
The DP also spoke about the government’s initiatives to support young people in developing their digital skills, mentioning the various programs that have been set up to assist young people in acquiring these crucial skills.
“We are alive to the concerns raised on the skills gap out of the estimated 900,000 graduates entering the labour market every year,” Gachagua said.
“We are addressing our education system with the future of work in mind,” he added.
Gachagua emphasized the importance of investing in digital skills not only for individual success, but also for the country’s economic growth. He encouraged the youth to take an active role in shaping their own futures by acquiring the necessary skills to thrive in the digital age.
