UoN 69th Graduation Ceremony: 4000 graduands conferred as University bids farewell to Chancellor Dr. Vijoo Rattansi

The University of Nairobi held its 69th graduation ceremony on Friday, with over 3,982 graduands receiving degrees and becoming members of the esteemed University of Nairobi convocation.

The ceremony was presided over by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Stephen Kiama Gitahi, who welcomed distinguished guests, including Dr. Vijoo Rattansi, Chancellor of the University of Nairobi, Members of Parliament, High Commissioners, and Ambassadors. In his speech, Prof. Gitahi congratulated the graduating class of 2023, who received 80 PhDs, 524 master’s degrees, and 3,132 bachelor’s degrees, as well as 1 Fellowship Award, 35 Post Graduate Diplomas, and 211 Diplomas.

The ceremony also included 50 of the pioneer students at Koitalel Arap Samoei Campus, a constituent college of the University of Nairobi. Prof. Gitahi paid special tribute to Dr. Rattansi, the University’s fifth Chancellor and the first female chancellor, whose term will be coming to an end towards the close of this year.

This was the last graduation ceremony that Dr. Rattansi presided over as chancellor of the University of Nairobi. “Dr. Rattansi has undoubtedly been an exceptional leader,” said Prof. Gitahi. “I want to pay special tribute to Dr. Rattansi for rendering diligent service to the University and the country at large.” The ceremony was attended by proud parents, faculty members, and distinguished guests, who joined in celebrating the academic achievements of the graduating class of 2023.

In her remarks, Dr. Vijoo Rattansi expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to serve as the Chancellor of the University of Nairobi. She also congratulated the graduates on their achievements and encouraged them to use their education to make a positive impact in their communities.

The ceremony was attended by distinguished guests, including government officials, members of the university council, and faculty members. The graduates were also joined by their families and friends, who cheered them on as they received their awards.
