Uhuru spotted driving himself, interacting with tourists
Former President Uhuru Kenyatta was spotted driving himself around, interacting with tourists.
In a video that was widely shared on Friday, Uhuru was seen driving in a recently registered Mingler (KDJ) stopping to greet a group of ecstatic people who seem to be tourists driving motorcycles.
“You are driving around Kenya? Is this your bike? Made in Kenya? Ntakuja Kuwajoin,” Uhuru said to the group while shaking hands.
He was dressed in a black cap and had two more occupants with him.
Even so, the thrill of going incognito is not new to the former Head of State who is known to could be spotted randomly without his usual entourage on several occasions.
In 2020, Uhuru and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga were captured on CCTV cameras looking at Non-Motorised Transport (NMT) works along Kenyatta Avenue.
The video showed a car stop by the construction of pedestrian walkways and cycle lanes at about 8.25 pm followed by several SUVs. The small motorcade made up of unmarked cars is accompanied by heavily armed police.
The previous year, 2019, Uhuru stunned churchgoers at the Holy Family Basilica after he showed up for mass without any noticeable security detail.
Dressed casually in a blue, striped polo shirt and khakis, the former president entered the compound discreetly.
