Uganda govt spokesperson clashes with Gen Muhoozi over social media posts
Uganda’s Commander of Defence Forces Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, and the Minister of Information and National Guidance Chris Baryomunsi, have clashed over the former’s random social media posts.
The fight comes after Baryomunsi said during a Capital Gang political talk show that he had told President Yoweri Museveni that Gen Muhoozi’s tweets were making his work as a government spokesperson harder.
However, he tried to defend the First Son, saying he loves posting and doesn’t normally mean whatever he posts on his X handle.
“The CDF doesn’t speak for the government of Uganda. But he likes X (formerly Twitter) communications. He tweets, he deletes them, and I’m sure Ugandans have formed an opinion on his tweets. Other than for the purposes of politicking, I don’t think they take them as the official position of the government,” Mr Baryomunsi said.
He added: “When he said when June 6, 2025′, did he hang him? Many right-thinking Ugandans just know he likes tweeting. As a government Spokesperson, I treat them as casual comments he makes on social media through X. And I have discussed this issue with the appointing authority, the President. Admittedly, his tweets make my work a little bit difficult.”
Gen Muhoozi responded on X, calling Dr Baryomunsi a traitor.
“Baryomunsi, the traitor, will never be a Minister again,” he tweeted.
Dr Baryomunsi shot back, “I rose from obscurity to where I am because of my abilities, not favours from anybody. I’m self-made. Being a Minister is not necessarily the best thing in life. My horizon is far beyond that. Let’s serve Uganda. Cheers.”
Gen Muhoozi: “It doesn’t matter. You will not be Minister this time. First, come and make peace with me.”
Dr Baryomunsi: “My father trained me to believe in myself. He restrained me from taking alcohol. I’m sober 24/7 and focused. He let me free and I don’t suffer from Peter Pan Syndrome. Those attacking me on Twitter/X don’t know the material we, the original Bakiga, are made of. Go slow.”
Gen Muhoozi: “It doesn’t matter. We are still sacking you. You probably need the Peter Pan Syndrome.”
Gen Muhoozi: “Baryomunsi, you should be more worried about jail.”
Dr Baryomunsi’s reference to Peter Pan syndrome is a popular psychology concept describing adults who evade responsibilities, resist commitment, and struggle with maturation.
