UDA leaders in Kilifi tell Raila to stop politicising Shakahola crime scene
United Democratic Alliance party leaders in Kilifi County have asked opposition leaders led by Raila Odinga to stop politicizing the Shakahola crime scene.
They also asked Kilifi legislators to focus on development, instead of following the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya leader.
Raila and his team were denied entry into Shakahola thickets where at least 110 bodies were exhumed allegedly for dying due to starvation in a bizarre marathon fasting so that they could meet Jesus Christ.
Led by former Ganda Ward Member of County Assembly Abdulrahman Omar, the leaders said it was strange that Raila together with Malindi MP Amina Mnyazi, Woman Rep Gertrude Mbeyu, Magarini MP Harrison Kombe and Deputy Governor Flora Chibule were protesting against being denied entry to see graves yet there were important things to do.
Omar said that the opposition leaders were capitalizing on the Shakahola issue to remain relevant after their attempts at street protests failed.
“We are surprised that Malindi MP protested that his father (Raila) had been denied entry into Shakahola forest to see graves, we wonder what exactly they want because the other days they were on servers demanding they be opened and then demonstrations and now they are on graves,” he said.
The former MCA said the Kilifi Woman Rep was on national television saying Pastor Ezekiel Odero should be jailed for life yet on Saturday she accompanied Raila to the Mavueni Church to defend him.
He cautioned Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leaders in Kilifi including Governor Gideon Mung’aro, Senator Stewards Madzayo and the other ODM elected leaders against supporting demonstrations in the county as it would hurt tourism.
“In Kilifi, we depend on tourism and when demonstrations began in the country many tourists left and our brothers and fathers lost jobs. Why should you be at the forefront to support the demos,” he said.
Omar said President William Ruto has not been physically present in Shakahola but his senior Government is in charge of the operation as the area is a crime scene where investigations are going on.
“We do not want conflicts that have no meaning, we want development, not demonstrations,” he said.
Janet Kihiko, an UDA supporter from Malindi town wondered why the leaders were now rushing to Shakahola after people died yet they did not support former Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa the current CS for public service when she protested against Mackenzie in 2019.
She said the same leaders who were insulting the government now were the same who did not intervene to ensure action was taken against the pastor.
