Three Kisii teachers accused of beating, injuring student charged
Three teachers accused of beating and injuring a secondary school student were on Thursday arraigned before Ogembo Law Courts in Kisii County.
The three, Douglas Mabiria, Abel Manyange and Franklin Ongwae were charged with grievous harm contrary to section 234 of the penal code.
They were arraigned before Ogembo Senior Principal Magistrate Paul Biwott.
The teachers from Nyabisia secondary school are said to have caned a form four student’ to a point that he lost his testicle.
Prosecution counsel Ian Makotsi filled an application opposing the release of the accused persons on bond saying the case is serious in nature and if released they are likely to interfere with the witnesses who are students in this case.
The prosecutor said due to the serious nature of the case, the accused could interfere with the witnesses who are students if they are released on bond.
Defense counsel Tom Ongori argued that there were no compelling reasons to deny the accused persons bail.
The court Magistrate in his determination ruled the accused were entitled to bail on merit.
“Considering the application to deny the accused persons bond, this application supported the affidavit that the accused persons will interfere with the witnesses.
The accused teachers were released on a bond of KES 100,000 each with a cash bail of KES 20,000.
The case will resume on April 27 for a mention.
