They should be fired – PLO Lumumba on Cabinet Secretaries lateness
Lawyer Patrick Loch Otieno Lumumba now says President William Ruto should have fired the Cabinet Secretaries who arrived late for the performance contracts signing on Tuesday morning.
The former director of the Kenya School of Law said the move would have been pivotal for ensuring effective governance in the country.
“They should have been fired, so that they can be late from their homes,” Lumumba said on Wednesday while addressing a talk on African leaders and technology usage at the Institution of Surveyors of Kenya Conference.
Some Cabinet Secretaries were on Tuesday locked out of State House and failed to sign their performance contracts after they arrived late to the important event.
According to an official programme released by State House Press Secretary Emmanuel Talam, the event was to begin at exactly 8 am.
This meant that all the CSs and their Principal Secretaries were to be seated early enough before the official time when the event would kick off.
Among those who were barred over lateness and did not sign their contracts were Interior CS Kithure Kindiki and his Trade and Industry counterpart Moses Kuria.
Speaking during the event, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua also criticised the CSs and governors who arrived at the event late, saying, “Who else had you gone to see? This is the head of state who has given you a job. These are things that need to change as you have signed performance contracts.”
“There are those saying they were in traffic. If you cannot keep time with your employer, you’ve basically dismissed yourself. For those who have come late, I will be expecting a letter of explanation that does not involve traffic,” warned President Ruto regarding the same.
