The Fallen Giants Of Mt. Kenya
The mountain has been shaken and the red pillars of influence are turning yellow. Strong defenders and allies of President Uhuru Kenyatta in Mt. Kenya region have been submitting to defeat with others profoundly silent on provisional results in their respective seats, perhaps hoping for a miracle. The UDA wave in Central Kenya has actualized and is sweeping key Jubilee Party leaders in the region.
Jubilee’s Director of Elections and Kieni former member of parliament Kanini Kega conceded defeat to UDA’s Njoroge Wainaina based on the region’s provisional results. In a social media post, the vocal legislator wrote, “Opening a new chapter, when one door closes another one is opened. Heading to Bomas.”
Kipipiri ex-MP Amos Kimunya running on a Jubilee ticket lost his seat to UDA’s Wanjiku Muhia. Wanjiku Muhia is the former woman representative for Nyandarua county having served between 2013-2017. Amos Kimunya has been a close ally of President Uhuru Kenyatta having served in the 12th parliament as the leader of the Majority from July of 2020 taking over from Aden Duale. Kimunya bid his constituents goodbye in a social media post after serving for 15 years.
Jubilee party secretary general and former Ngaragwa Member of Parliament Jeremia Kioni yielded defeat to UDA’s George Gachagua. Kioni who was vying on a Jubilee party ticket took to his Facebook page to congratulate his successor, “…I accept the results with honour and contentment. Congratulations to the incoming MP Hon George Gachagua.”
Other notable mentions are Narc-Kenya’s Kabando wa Kabando and Jubilee’s Priscilla Nyokabi who were both in the race to become Nyeri’s next senator. Kabando wa Kabando conceded to defeat through his social media handle.
All is not rosy in UDA’s court either, incumbent Bahati MP Kimani Ngunjiri running on a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has lost to Jubilee’s Irene Njoki. Njoki carried the day with 34,308 votes while Ngunjiri came second with 26,809 votes.
