Stop bothering Kenyans and face me, Ruto chides Raila over demos
President William Ruto has chided opposition leader Raila Odinga for leading anti-government protests that have rocked Nairobi and other parts of the country.
The President told Raila to stop bothering Kenyans and disrupting the peace and development agenda of his administration.
Speaking at Kegogi in Kitutu Chache North, Kisii County, on Friday, Ruto said Odinga should stop blaming a whistleblower and a server for his defeat in the August 2022 elections. He said he won the polls fairly and squarely and challenged Odinga to face him directly instead of harassing innocent citizens.
“I want to ask Raila Odinga to stop bothering Kenyans, if they have a problem with a whistleblower and a server, they should look for where the whistleblower and server is. Elections were done away with and it’s take our Kenya forward,” Ruto said.
“He should give me a chance, let me plan things for Kenya, let me plan the development of Kenya, youth affairs, housing, and how we will end hunger. Stop bothering the citizens, if you have any issues with me, I am the one who defeated you, leave the small mama mboga alone. If you have a problem, face me, leave the common citizens alone,” he added.
Ruto also claimed to have warned Raila to brace himself for a tough race and accept defeat after the 2022 elections.
“I defeated him, and I told him before the election that I would defeat him,” he said.
Raila’s Azimio la Umoja coalition has been holding rallies demanding Ruto’s resignation and a reduction in the cost of living. The protests turned violent on Monday when police clashed with demonstrators attempting to march to the Nairobi CBD.
At least four opposition legislators and several protesters were detained before being released on bail.
Raila has maintained that Ruto was not legitimately elected and that his government is illegitimate. He has promised to hold weekly protests until Ruto meets his demands.
