Speaker Kingi takes a swipe at Uhuru, Gachagua for inciting the youth

Senate Speaker Amason Kingi has joined other allies of President William Ruto in accusing former President Uhuru Kenyatta of inciting the youth against the broad-based government.

Mr Kingi spoke when he led a team of President Ruto’s allies in training guns on former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, whom they accused of dividing Kenyans along tribal lines as he intensified efforts to rally the Kamba community behind President Ruto.

Speaking during a funds drive in aid of women groups at Makindu Township in Makueni County, Mr Kingi took a swipe at Mr Kenyatta over his latest call on the youth to play a more active role in governance.

The call which Mr Kenyatta made two weeks ago has earned him rebuke from among others, President Ruto’s personal assistant, Farouk Kibet, the National Assembly Majority Leader, Kimani Ichungwah and Prime Cabinet Secretary, Musalia Mudavadi.

“You were a president for 10 years. You did nothing to empower youth and women. Please give us a break. Allow the current president to roll out his good plans to empower the youth. Incitement will not take us anywhere,” Mr Kingi told Mr Kenyatta yesterday.

The team of President Ruto’s allies, led by Mr Kingi, took turns to shower Kibwezi West MP Mwengi Mutuse with praise for boldly initiating the impeachment of Mr Gachagua.

The first time MP moved the motion, which culminated in the impeachment of Mr Gachagua.

Mr Kingi accused Mr Gachagua of opposing President Ruto’s plan to reach out to the opposition. However, he said, most of the allies of President Ruto were afraid of confronting Mr Gachagua, whom he likened to a troublesome and dangerous bull that needed to be slaughtered.

“Mr Mutuse boldly held the raging bull by the horns, put it down and enabled its slaughtering,” Mr Kingi said.

“History will be written that Mr Mutuse stood out and slayed the dragon of tribalism in Kenya. He did the right thing,” Mwala MP Vincent Musyoka said. Mr Kibet and Nandi Hills MP Bernard Kitur said Mr Mutuse had what it takes to succeed President Ruto.

Mr Kingi led allies of President Ruto in defending his development scorecard. They listed infrastructure projects, clearing pending bills, and stabilization of the economy as some of President Ruto’s achievements.

“A 2-kilo packet of maize flour should now be going for Sh 1000 were it not for the deliberate strategies initiated by President Ruto,” Mr Kingi said.

The ceremony saw Taveta MP John Bwire, an ally of Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, declare his support for President Ruto.

He urged the Head of State to overlook criticism from the opposition. The fundraiser realized Sh 7.5 million. President Ruto contributed Sh 3 million which was delivered by Mr Kingi.

Mr Farouk contributed a million shillings.

Mr Kingi revealed that President Ruto’s allies had embarked on such fundraisers to claw back on opposition influence ahead of the 2027 General Election.

“We shall go wherever we shall be called to offer our assistance because we want to unite all Kenyans. That is a call by President Ruto,” he said.
