Senator Asige releases new single “Tattoo” in solidarity with women
Senator Crystal Asige has unveiled her latest single and accompanying music video from her upcoming mixtape, “Blinding Allure II,” with the lead single titled “Tattoo.”
“Tattoo” delves into the pain of life’s struggles, urging listeners to transform their vulnerabilities into artistic expressions that narrate their unique stories.
Senator Crystal Asige describes the music video as a visual journey of embracing one’s scars and transcending the associated pain.
“As a creative, I believe in channelling everyday experiences into artistic expressions that resonate with people and inspire them,” Senator Asige expressed.
The release of “Tattoo” coincides with a poignant moment in Kenya, as women spearhead a powerful campaign against gender-based violence.
Senator Asige has been a vocal advocate in this movement, rallying grassroots human rights defenders and leading initiatives to denounce femicide.
The movement is organised by grassroots human rights defenders whom the senator has been championing.
Senator Asige has been at the forefront of activism against femicide in her spheres of influence where she single-handedly lobbied women parliamentarians to wear black instead of red on Valentine’s Day, as a statement of solidarity with all the women that have lost their lives at the hands of men.
This was followed by a night vigil concert at the University of Nairobi on the same day.
The ODM Senator went further to sponsor a widely debated adjournment motion in Parliament about the increased cases of femicide recently witnessed in the country, labelling them as “barbaric” and a “methodical execution of defenceless women.”
“Femicide is a deep-rooted hate crime that strikes at the very heart of our commitment to justice, equality, and fundamental human rights and must be called out for what it is – a national emergency,” she said.
In addition to being a gifted wordsmith, Asige’s blending of chakacha and hip-hop in her new single, not only infuses each lyric with genuine emotion but also demonstrates depth and resonance in her voice, underpinned by a strong and unique vocal technique.
The release of “Tattoo” marks another milestone in Senator Crystal Asige’s multifaceted journey, combining activism with artistic expression to create a meaningful impact in society.
