Senate to summon KNH, Thika Level 5 and ministry officials over death of baby Travis
The Senate Health Committee, Chaired by Jackson Mandago has said it will in the coming days will be inviting the administration of Thika Level 5 Hospital, KNH and the Ministry of Health to shed more light the death of baby Travis.
Baby Travis lost his life at the Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) to injuries caused by a fork jembe lodged in his head.
The committee today met with Judy Muthoni, mother to the late Travis Maina as the sough to get more information on the incidents leading to the the boy’s death.
The committee said Muthoni was too emotional to talk and was assisted by her sister Lucy Muthoni in narrating a twenty-four hour harrowing ordeal that Master Travis endured in the hands of doctors at Thika Level 5 hospital and KNH.
Muthoni was also accompanied by Evelyne Ogendo, a counselling psychologist.
They pointed out that Master Travis succumbed due to negligence from KNH.
Mandago instructed KNH to disclose the identity of the doctor who is accused of requesting a deposit from a patient who was admitted in an emergency.
Muthoni claimed that the doctor demanded at least KES 20,000 from her in order to treat her son.
Uasin Gishu senator, Jackson Mandago, promised to look into the matter and observed that many Kenyans have unnecessarily lost their lives in government facilities out of negligence.
Other Senators present at the meeting were Vice Chair Mariam Sheikh, and Senators Karungo Thangwa, Hamida Kibwana and Raphael Chimera.
