Senate to reconvene on Friday to swear in Bungoma Senator, deliberate on Mwangaza’s fate
Senate Speaker Amason Kingi has announced in a gazette notice that the Senate will hold a special sitting in the Senate Chamber at the Main Parliament Buildings in Nairobi on Friday, December 30, 2022.
The sitting will begin at 2.30 p.m.
The main business of the sitting will be the swearing-in of David Wakoli Wafula, the Senator-elect for Bungoma County, and the consideration of the report from the Special Committee on the proposed removal from office of the Governor of Meru County by impeachment.
“The business to be transacted at the sitting shall be the — swearing-in of David Wakoli Wafula, the Senator-elect for Bungoma County; and consideration of the Report of the Special Committee on the Proposed Removal from Office, by impeachment, of the Governor of Meru County,” the gazette notice reads in part.
According to the Senate Standing Orders, this will be the only business of the special sitting, after which the Senate will adjourn until Tuesday, February 14, 2023, at 2.30 p.m. for its regular sessions.
Ford Kenya’s Wafula Wakoli won the Bungoma Senatorial by-election on December 9, 2022.
Wakoli won the seat with 66,023 votes, beating out Mwambu Mabonga of the UDA who received 45,907 votes.
